Does anyone else do this and is it a bad thing?
For example, I have had my new boy since mid may. He's only 4 and wasn't broken long and although very genuine, I'd say he lacks in confidence. We are gradually growing as a partnership but he's had 8wks off with foot balance/abscess issues so we are not truely trusting of each other yet. He can get nappy around other horses and due to his greeness, he's a bit stressy in situations such as an unfamiliar indoor school, or when a horse leaves where we are riding etc etc.
I have joined a riding club with the aim of getting him out and about a bit more but I'm finding I'm over thinking things. The first club night I can go to is at an indoor he's never been to and there will be 4 of us in the group. I am predicting mega stress from him (and probably from me if the truth be told). I was planning to hire the indoor myself the week before the club night and take him down there with plenty of time to lunge etc first and let him see the lay of the land. Some friends say yes, good idea, some say, stop being a wuss. Just take him on the night and get on with it. Am I being too wary?
What approach would you take to introducing a green 4yr old to new things? Do you just go and get on with it? Help!
