how sad is it that hes retireing from 4* competitions will deffo miss seeing him at badminton hes such a character. well done jeanette and over to you for another fab performance this year!!

It is sad but he doesn't owe anyone anything. Such a class consistant horse

Think JB said she'll keep him for the ODEs

yes she said she will still compete him. but also good on her for keeping him going up untill now i know she was under pressure to retire him years ago because of his age but she stuck by him and ive got to say looked better every year and he always makes the x country look easy such a talent

Sad, yet terrifically wonderful at the same time - Im so very glad she has taken the descision to retire him before something happened to him. He has been the ultimate servant and deserves to be retired at his best!

She'll probably be aiming him for things like the eventers grand prix classes and so on as he is such a good jumper. Have spoken to her about him retiring before and the fact is that in his view it would be the worst thing poss to retire him completely as he is one off those type of horses that will keep going until the end. They would keep on letting him have a go at the 4*'s but the thing is that at his age there is only really one direction for him to go and that is downhill and he deserves to go out on a high after everything he has put in.

I have always said that when it comes time for my boy to go out eventing I will be sending him to Jeanette. I think it is a testament to her that she has had Jack for soo many years and yet NEVER had him go off with the slightest tendon injury or anything. The only thing I have ever seen him with was after he fell at Punchestown Europeans in 2003 when he banged his knee and had it swollen for a few days....that's it....he's got legs that are better and cleaner than many 4 year olds!!!

Glad he's got a mention - great horse !

It was said he will go down in the recorrds as being the second horse to complete Badminton at his age ( or something like that , sorry , I'm tired ) .

Anyone know who the other horse was & the correct question ?

he always amazes me, i saw him going around badminton today and he looks as good as any other younger horse!

Think it's most xc completions. According to Badminton website, if he completes tomorrow - he'll the the first horse even to complete fully 7 times.

Ballycotton completed 6 times with the same rider and then once more with someone else

he's also only the 2nd horse to complete Badminton 7 times!!!
I think the other 19 year old was an Irish horse, can't remember his name of the top of my head though.

just wanted to add to my post above but was too late to edit

jeanette is also a fabulous person nothing is too much trouble for her and she always speaks and gives advice

so good luck tomorrow jeanette.............

Yeah..have got fingers and toes crossed for him. I was soo hoping that he'd have had a better dressage score as with all the pull outs of the better dressage horses I was really hoping he could have made his final Badminton his big win! Would have been so fab as he is now the highest points winning and medal winning horse in eventing history and has yet never won a 4 * or even a 3 *!!
Not to be though so just want him to complete and go home safe and sound!

I would have loved him to win too , but like you , completing safe & sound will do nicely .

He's a star anyway !

Yep a fantastic horse who has given so much over the years. I hope Jeanette finds another 'friend' and partner like him. She always comes across as such a lovely person and is a great rider.
