Overcoming riding fear - what's your song?

Songs I would not sing/hum to are

Humpty Dumpty ( had a great fall is the worrying bit! )

William Tell Overture ! erm...def not..ha ha

Like Nellie the elephant though..

Shirl

I've been known to go-
'Who let the dogs out?' I even carry on with the woof bits!
Raindrops keep falling on my head, diddly pom
I do like to be by (or is it beside?) the seaside
Lets go fly a kite, is another regular one!

Mostly it's 'a partridge in a pear tree' as I really have to think once I get past '6 geese alaying'
Sometimes to jazz it up we break into 'Ernie the fastest milkman in the west!'

Mine is the same tune but the words are "The first day i went riding what did I see etc so 4 joggers jogging , 3 collie dogs, 2 lost gloves and a bag of doggy poo stuck in a tree

There’s a monster in the bushes and it’s scaring all the horses, scaring all the horses, ' scaring all the horses, there’s a monster in the bushes and it’s scaring all the horses and it won’t and it won’t and it won’t come out!

Chorus
I can’t see it it’s not really there
I can’t see it it’s not really there
I can’t see it it’s not really ther
I think you’re just making a fuss

There’s a dragon in the trees and it’s blowing fiery breath, blowing fiery breath, blowing fiery breath etc.... and it won’t and I think won’t and it won’t come out

Chorus

There a fly tipped toilet in the road it’s scaring all the horses, scaring all the horses....

You perhaps get the picture ....

ETA that’s mostly for hackin g with my son if the nags are both spooking about. If I’m cr***in* myself genuinely each of Mine has it own song. Irish one is ‘Danny Boy’ crazy mare has some Scottish folk song involving lots f swearing.

I need to remember some of these!

I use 10 green bottles and, when I really need brave pants, out comes 'I wanna be like you' from the Jungle Book.

It makes me swaggery and so far it's fooling him...

Nellie the elephant is a fab suggestion!

I'm useless at remembering songs all the way through, so once I've knocked off all 99 green bottles, it's the NZ National Anthem and Rhinestone Cowboy, which bizarrely, I remember most of.

mine is pure cheese.... his name is strawberry.

So i edited you are my sunshine

"you are my strawberry
my only strawberry
you make me happy
when you behave
you never know dear
how much i love you
so please strawberry, behave today"
:D

My version is “ You are my sunshine my Solly Sunshine” :D

Normally '10 green bottles' or

one man went to mow went to mow a meadow
one man and his dog [insert name here]
went to mow a meadow
two men went to mow etc......

However, I have been totally inspired by everyone's ideas so I may add to my repertoire!

I get my daughter to sing the grand old duke of York when trotting it tends to stop her from flapping about, mine is sweet child o mine just cos its my fav song

Another for ‘you are my sunshine’ and may change the words to suit what I’m doing or the music from Bonanza (sp?) for when I’m cantering or galloping! - not happening at all at the mo!

What an excellent idea for a thread! When I’m a bit worried riding I sing Romeo and Juliet for some bizarre reason. It is strangely calming.

I like hymns - very uplifting: Sing Hosanna is a good one, so is Jerusalem and Bread of Heaven.

I still remember the songs we did in Choir when I was 10 - Gilbert and Sullivan - Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat is a good one, but I can never remember all the colours and the one from Noah - "the animals went in two by two, two by two".

Postman Pat for jumping - nice and rhythmical.

I'm another for Grand Old Duke of York when I'm feeling nervous...no idea why, it just pops into my head and I sing it over and over..and over...and ooooover
