I have a purebred Connemara mare that I would like to breed from, but want to produce as big a foal as possible - ideally 15.2 ish. I was wondering if anyone knew of or had an oversized Connemara stallion? I have considered using an ID or Welsh D stallion to give the foal a bit more height, but would really like it to be a purebred Connie! I wanted my mare to run with the stallion, so he would need to be in England! There seem to be some good tall stallions in the USA - Gunsmoke and Thurman Clearheart, but there must be some in England too!

Thanks for your help! <font color="purple"> </font>

Gunsmoke is not in the USA - he's in Wicklow, Ireland. I should imagine he's available by AI if you contact Kippure stud.

If the stallion is overheight and therefore presumably no longer (or never was) approved for breeding with the ECPS what sort of papers would you get? Presumably they would be either part-bred (through the dam) or even the dreaded section X which I am not sure that you would want. As there are no height restrictions on section Ds or IDs you might be better off going that way anyway.

I think there a couple of up to height (but not overheight) Connemara society licenced Kippure stallions graded with the SPSS.I know they will not be overheight as they were done for BSJA stallion approval purposes so must be not more than 148 cm without shoes. However as they are Kippure they probably carry 'big' genes so you might get the sort of result you are looking for if you go that route.

Ah yes you are right about Gunsmoke, think I was on an old website before as I have now found it does say he is in Ireland. I will look into this, he is gorgeous!

there is a stallion called Boden Park Kilbrew, who is pure connie, but always seems to throw overheight connies

": BODEN PARK KILBREW Reg No. S104 (1995) Grey. Sire: Abbeyleix Owen (CPS 496)
Dam: Bodenpark Hailstones"

I had a *cough* well up to height registered Irish- bred Connemara sired by Kingstown Boy, he was out of a 13.2 mare.

My reg'd Section B has thrown back to his Downland ancestors - sire 12.2 hands, dam 13 hands tops. He is the biggest 13.2 you are likely to see.
