I've just realised today i've been over paying my livery by a bit every month

When I moved the ned there, I was moving location too so it was a bit hectic. I paid cash for the first month which was pro-rata and received an invoice for this.

I worked out today that I must have remembered the rent amount incorrectly and have been overpaying a bit each month via bank transfer and no one has mentioned i've been over paying- why would they!

Six months down the line, this equates to half a months rent. Would it be cheeky of me to take this into account when paying my next months rent on the 1st? Obviously I would speak to them first.

My horse is kept on a farm with a handfull of other liveries. It is not their main income, they also run a business from there also.

I personally would be very annoyed that no one told me I was over paying. I bet if you hadn't been paying enough it would have been mentioned!
I would let the YO know that you have realised your mistake and pay half for your next month.

Make sure you mention it well in advance as if the YO genuinely hasn't realised the mistake then you don't want to cause them problems paying other bills, but there should be no issue with reducing next months to make things right.

I was under charged last month and neither YO or I realised so we've made it right this time. It is no cause for a big row, just sort it out at your next bill.

When you next see your YO mention you were looking through your last months bank statement and realised you had overpayed, you then checked through your other invoices and realised you have overpayed then too. So next months livery you will be paying less to make up for what you have spent.

Nice user name ;)

Have they not been invoicing you since you first moved there then? I agree though, have a word and say you will just adjust it on the next payment.

I would not assume the YO knows you were overpaying. I am a yard owner and didn't used to check that payments tally with the invoices when payments are made by direct bank transfer. I do now though as I found that one person was often underpaying! As soon as I found out, I did not back date it, except for the one previous month, but now when she does it (most months!), I carry it forward as an underpayment and bill her for it the next month.

Haha MardyMare :)

I just pay via bank transfer every month so don't get any invoices, although I have proof via statements that I've paid.

They probrably don't realise I've overpaid as everyone pays via bank transfer I think. So like Wagtail says, unless they check their statements, they might not even realise.

They're lovely people so can't see it being a problem- I just wondered because it was my error.

Thanks for the advice.

I know one yard I worked at there was a couple of liverys who used to overpay every month so at Christmas there livery was paid for. Although when they paid they would receive a receipt and it would say how much credit they were in.
I would check with YO

Yep, I overpaid on purpose all summer when horses were out 24/7 to supplement my much more expensive winter bills. :)
