Overpriced or just me?

For a small horse that does not seem to have done anything, but has 'potential' and is jumping a jump that looks no bigger than 2foot it seems very overpriced, or is it just me?

Pointless post really but just wondered what everyone else thought.

Especially when you compare it to this one which is about the same price!

Very. Don't think much of its jumping style either.

Love the 2nd one though. That's my sort of horse

It's Overpriced. We had someone down our yard trying to sell a 15.3 mare about 8 years old. Done a bit of eventing but didn't really get anywhere, no money or points on it's card and she wanted £7500 for it. We all told her no chance, and i think she sold it for £4000.
 
Yes, I would say too much. It's quite hollow over the fence as well.

The second horse looks lovely, and is at a price to sell.

I do wonder how they came up with that price. I agree 2nd one is lovely.

Why is it I find myself looking at horse adverts when I dont even have a spare tenner, never mind a few thousand

I disagree actually <ducks for cover> the first is younger and seems to be doing well and ready for bigger and better things. The second is older, hasn't really done much to any great level and seems fairly priced as a nice all rounder.

I also think there are lots of people interested in a smaller competition horse, as a lot of the warmbloods and ISHs tend to be fairly big and not everyone wants that.

And I think that this is where a lot of people get it so wrong with pricing. The second horse sound like a cracking individual and really well priced imo.

The other one is priced at what it 'might' be able to do - which is fair enough. But is basically a very average little horse - so why the £7k price tag?
 
In general if its a younger horse you are more likely to be paying for potential (or what it "might" be able to do given a capable rider). That's why younger horses with excellent breeding for example can cost more than older horses who haven't done much.

The second horse as I said earlier does seem to be fairly priced as it looks like a nice allrounder rather than anything special.

The first horse may seem fairly "average" to you but I would say that £7k is a fairly average price for something that is being described as having good basic abilty in all spheres and who is ready to go affiliated.

Personally neither horse is my cup of tea but if push came to shove I would want to find out more about the first one.
 
I'm sorry but 7k for a fairly nice looking horse (hard to tell too much from the pic) that has just started to jump and not done much else? Oh please, that's ridiculous! It may have potential but if it had that much they'd keep it and do something with it. I can't believe how mad prices have gotten.
 
I agree, that price is disgraceful. It looks like an average RC horse which I wouldnt pay more than £3k for personally. IMO Not worth that at all, somebody is wishful thinking... but then you do get morons out there willing to pay any price! I really dislike paying for unproved "potential". Anything has potential, but Id want to have a vague idea of it - ie. fo a 6yo it should be out doing BN / Discovery at least IMO.
 
There's a couple of ads in the H&H mag that made me chuckle:

a 9yr old gelding, placed Unaff Prelim and novice dressage. Jumps 2ft 9" with ease (it's 16.3hh!!) for £7500 (Reduce this price by a third and you'd be about right I think...)

And ones where they state pony jumps 1m+ with ease and show a picture of it jumping 1ft!
 
Firstly I agree the 1st is over priced, but how can you tell from that photo that it is an ave horse? You cant see its conformation or its movement, so how can it be classed as ave? Sorry not meaning to stir anything up, but just curious.
 
I think it just looks average from photo and is only riding club, small ladies height. I often think that because people advertise in H&H they think they should add a third of the value on!
