Overreach boots for turnout

If your horse is regularly over-reaching and/or pulling shoes, have a good look at his/her hoof balance. If the toes are even slightly too long (and long toes often go hand in hand with under-run heels), it delays the breakover which means that the horse is far more likely to over-reach. Don't accept any suggestions that TB's have crappy hooves, so you should just accept it either, they can and should have wonderful quality horn and properly balanced hooves.

Before I changed Farrier, I had to keep OR boots one one of mine. I found that rubber (not plastic) OR boots with sheepskin at the top were the best. I went a size up as that also helped to prevent rubs.

I use HKM one with fleeces collars I also use oversized one for turnout .
I also agree have a long hard look at your horses feet especially the hind ones is the farrier allowing the heels to collapse and the toes to run forward .

Dont use anything that is likely to absorb water as they can rub and are more likely to come off if they're wet and heavy. The rubber ones are fine. I use the ones with velcro as my boy has HUGE hooves and they're a nightmare to get on. It does mean I'm occasionally off on a boot hunt, but probably not as often as you'd expect!

Thanks everyone for your comments. He does not overreach all the time, but knowing how accident prone he is it will only be a matter of time before he hurts himself!! I think I will go for the rubber ones for turnout, and get some decent ones for going out.
