I have had a huge bust up on the yard to day about overweight riders?

What do you class as overweight and what horse is actually suited to an overweight rider?

On the yard there is an 11stone women who thinks she can not ride her 16.2h tb as it may snap

and a 15/16 stone novice who thinks a barely 14hh light cob with a 16inch saddle is acceptable

What do you class as to heavy?

:p HERE WE GO .......... POPCORN !!!!! :D

I am actually so fat that my pony's tummy scrapes along the floor when I ride him, so we stick in the school as it's softer for said belly.

I weigh ten stone seven and I am terrified that I am too heavy for my Shire cross 17 hand hunter. Can anyone reassure me?

get off HIM NOW!!!! WTF :p

I got slated for being fat on my horse so I went and ate rabbit foor for a bit and died in the gym and now im loosing weight so if your worried op just lose weight

Cptrayes, you are far too fat to ride your poor horse. It would be cruel to ride such a lightweight horse when you are that ginorma-gantuan. An elephant may be a more suitable mount for you and your fat arse. :D :p ;)

I'm so depressed at not being able to ride at the moment that I am eating chocolate cake until I feel sick. Poor hairy horse is going to have problems throwing me off again.

Well I have to say I was an overweight rider BUT the horse I was riding could take the weight ;)

The definition of an overweight rider is MOSTLY based on peoples perceptions of an overall picture most of the time.

Ive jsut hit the ten stone mark and at my heaviest I was over 14 stone. I looked too fat to be riding my 14.3hh welshy x BUT he certainly had no bother carting my fat ass all over the countryside at common ridings for 6+ hours :D

Even now at ten stone I am overweight for my size so technically im and 'overweight rider' but I look a lot better sitting on him so people wouldnt assume I was over weight :D

Surely it doesn't matter if someones overweight or not, isn't it about the horses ability to carry your weight? I wouldn't let an emaciated tall adult of 6stone on a mini, but a 14hh cob could happily carry a morbidly obese, young child of 10stone. Obviously being very overweight will effect a riders ability, same as in any sport but that's not relevant to the horses welfare.

I'm fat, not as fat as I was after losing nearly 4 stone but I am still 4 stone overweight, I wouldn't have felt happy on any horse at my heaviest but started to ride after I had lost 3st, I'm too heavy for my daughters Tb, but he's on loan to a lovely lady on our yard and I've been lucky to ride novice friendly weight carrying horses and now have a beautiful suitable mare on loan myself also at same yard. I don't fancy getting ripped apart so I won't be posting any photos :D

I diagnose bulimia. Don't you selfish people understand that there are people starving and there you are eating choccies and sicking up. Wasteful and selfish. Please send the remainder of your choccies to me at once.

Who cares :)
I couldn't :)
if a owner of 18stone wants to ride their tb who am I to stop them? Their horse, their vet bills, their bussness, your nose out.

Horses are not to be ridden don't you know. It's cruel. I mean, first the weight of the saddle and then a person on top :eek:

Clippety clop and it's popcorn for dinner tonight :D

Right. Fess up now. Who is the naughty HHOer? Not a nasty troll....sort of on the lines of other well trodden " debates" of " I am on DIY so care better for my horse than anyone who - god forbid, has their horse on livery AND...of course, the infamous draw reins and barefoot discussions..

Enjoying my wine. Bit tame at the moment..everyone bored of the subject by any chance?!

We were a horse short recently and wanted to go for a hack so I doubled up with my friend on her TB. He behaved really well..none of the usual bucking and spooking either. :D I'm 10' 6 and she's about the same..who said TBs won't take much weight.
