Overwintering outside

I'm about to rent 6 acres of land and 2 stables for my 2 horses, but the contract I've just received states that 'the tenant shall not allow the horses to be overwintered outside'. I think this means that I can't leave my horses out 24/7, but a friend has told me it means I can't turn them out at all during Winter. Who's right?

Would it not just be easier to ask the landowner?

I would, but the contract has to be in the post by tomorrow and the land agent can't be contacted until Monday. I am moving house, so the land is 250 miles away from where I live now.

id say it means not to turf the land up so stable at night ?

I wouldn't like to guess about that one. To me it could mean that they can't live outside in the winter, which lots of landowners think is perfectly acceptable.

I would imagine it means it can't be overgrazed through winter. They probably don't want it poached..

I cant garantee this- but in a previous land renatal contract when we lived in Shropshire it meant that we could not leave horses out 24/7- they could only be turned out for 'periods of time' but your landlord may mean something different

I wouldnt take the risk of not being able to turn out at all and would def ask the land owner!
