LMAO and slightly tongue in cheek ...
but just seen a Xc photo of my big horse with tall rider jumping through an owl hole ...

On walking the course nothing particularly alarming about it - an appropriate dimension for the level,

Horse jumped it very economically - riders head is ? 10cm from the top of the owl hole 😂

What would have happened had the horse given the fence an extra foot, which is not beyond the realms of possibility 😱

bit tight up there o_O

Nice set of pics though, he makes the timber fence look tiny, what a horse :D

Yes it’s deffo brush (aren’t all owl holes?) so some give if there was connection.

But the horse really didn’t give it much air (perhaps knowingly, he is a smart cookie)

Owl holes have always given me the heebie jeebies for this exact reason. I don't think I could ever dare jump through one. (Not that it's ever likely anyway!)

Wow that is a bit tight - brush or not, I'd say you would get a fair wake up call as a rider to feel that ontop of your head while jumping!

SLM wasn't brush, good job that's not on the list anymore or you'd have to be more careful!

Gosh that is a bit close! I had a nosey at the rest of the photos, lovely horse - I haven't been to Pontispool for years, miss it! Used to live very local

He’s one big dude with a heart of gold. It’s getting closer to the time when an advert will need to go up, I’m dreading it tbh!

OMG! I actually jumped that very fence at Pontispool on camp and my horse who is only 15.3 but a massive overachiever gave it a humongous leap and I scratched my face on the brush. It hurt a lot but I just laughed it off so that I wouldn't cry.

Gosh! It is genuinely something I’ve not given much thought to and really didn’t have any real concerns with the fence - it was only the picture that gave me an initial giggle. But yes, thinking with serious head on - that brush was stiff enough not to brush through easily - I’m sure Pontispool are building within guidelines and there are fences of this dimension up & down the country.

But I’m now imagining someone’s head catching and being snapped back. You would hope instinct would have the horse & rider naturally duck but a) I wouldn’t put money on it and b) they shouldn’t have to

I jumped through a small “guillotine” on a fun ride. It had wooden toadstools in front. I landed with a small branch caught in my hat button. The branch had hung just below the top cross bar.

I also have a picture of us jumping through a sort of owl hole and you can see I am very close to hitting the top.

See that’s okay and probably how they should be - the brush there isn’t really going to cause much damage.
It’s the dense twiggy type of brush that wouldn’t yield so easily

Watched with horror as the riders jumped over a trailer with JCB arms forming the owl hole it looked very close from where I was standing but probably wasnt
