I live in a rented cottage with no central heating and a Klargester (sp?) tank in the bottom of my garden that does all the other 4 cottages here as well. I have a solid fuel Rayburn which is very temperamental and either burns so hot the water is boiling in the tank or just about stays alight but gives off virtually no heat.
You do get used to it, like some one said you put more clothes on and have an extra dog on the bed in the winter!
I would also recommend an immersion heater but I would also suggest having one on a time switch so you don't have to worry about it being left on.
Check with neighbours about the septic tank as depending on the type it varies how often they should be emptied. Apparently with the type I've got they are not supposed to be emptied completely but one tanker driver didn't know that and coupled with some very heavy rain getting under the tank the whole tank lifted up and I looked out of my bedroom window one morning to what looked like a great alien space craft floating in my garden!
