I have ordered this brush with sponge and shampoo compartment off ebay, it's brill! great for spot washing in the morning before comp, when you realise that your lovely grey horse that you washed 3 times the day before, now has a lovely brown poo stain across its face  :D
this should make my life a bit easier with keeping the grey clean-ish :)

I HAVE to get one. I know I've posted this photo before, but if it works on this I won't just post it on here, I'll tell the world!

i have 2 greys and find the best thing to keep them clean is a huge shavings bed and take all the wet out everyday, im actually lucky they both keep themselves pretty clean,:D

Annagain I have a suspicion that your pony would count as having more than a spot!! ;-) my piebald who is mostly white is clipped and rugged in order to avoid this!

I disagree - there is one spot.....of white! He is bathed very regularly but very occasionally a spot wash can do the job - if he's been bathed an hour before and left in his stable for example!

i avoid that by putting a light weight on it, but the neck, face and legs look pretty much the same as your ones do :) And did i mention the HUGE clumps of mud, twigs and grass in the tail? Its more like a wrecking ball attatched to a crane, especially if she swings it! :D

I've tried the lightweight but if he gets too hot, he finds his way out of it - normally destroying it in the process

Only good thing is if he's warm enough to be out naked, he's warm enough to be hosed from head to toe :p

Ooh will def give that a shot! I found that grooming mitts work well too! You can buy them from Robbies or similar but local pound shop will do the same ones, originally used to wash cars with....:

I sympathise, I swore I'd never get a grey as I'm a bit OCD but I've ended up with 2 in a row!

I've just shoved a LW on my boy, but this was the before picture, which is actually quite clean for him!

Bless him he looks very pleased to be a different colour :D
I wish i took a picture of my girl on the day when she was out naked and it rained, so she rolled in the mini mud pond in the field and came in with at least an inch of mud all over her, including clumped up on her eyelashes, whiskers and bits of mud up her nose too. I didn't have my camera with me  needless to say, i was unimpressed as it was a week night, i was trying to be quick as still had tons of work to do at home, but i had to ride. I just hosed it all off, slapped a fleece combo on it and rode it bareback :) But since then, she's only out naked when its dry and warm enough :)

I swear mine is half Irish Draught, half hippo. You expect a bit of extra work with a grey but he is unbelievable! I've never known a horse manage to get so much mud coverage when he rolls!

3 out of 4 of mine have been grey. I don't remember my first pony being too bad, but it was 25 years ago so I might have blocked it out and my share horse is very fleabitten so doesn't really show the dirt, but this one is beyond.

My farrier has a theory that they feel the need to camouflage themselves so they don't stand out to predators. Plausible!

I hate to dis-allusion (sp?) you but the brush you mention just doesn't work, at least it doesnt on my grey. We got one, used it once and it's now lying in the bottom of our yard box.
A big, clean shavings bed works best for us, with a touch up using Cowboy Magic green spot remover.

At the moment he is rugged up to go out so has a clean body and a very muddy head!

I just rug mine to keep off the worst, I have a double trouble hippo, a grey tobiano who not only has huge amounts of white, but whose grey bits will eventually white out too! :o

Would a coat of yacht varnish be a step too far?

This made me laugh and reminded me of the week before my last show, my guy had been kicked in the field and had a cut on his hind leg and I'd put some purple spray on it....doh!
Spend the rest of the week trying to get said purple spray out, someone on the yard recommended white emulsion! Needless to say I didn't try it, although it was tempting to throw it all on him and paint the grey patches on :D Might be worth a try?
