Argh, it is driving me mad. I am quite sure that my horse doesn't have the biggest mouth in the world, but I can't find a huge selection of bits over 6". I am looking for something like a Baucher or pelham with a thin mouthpiece, or really just a decent selection.

I am pretty sure that all those lovely warmbloods have huge mouths, and what about draught horses, is there a secret supply somewhere that I haven't discovered yet?

No, no secret supply, unfortunately. I ordered a 61/2" Abbey bit from a local saddlery, I had the horse pts 6 yrs ago and I'm still waiting for the bit!
NS and PeeWee are the bits I use for the large mouthed horses.

i *think* i have a 6inch double (came with bridle i wanted)~ and im pretty sure i have no use for it...... ill dig it out as a. i think it has a makers name on it, b. let me know if you want any info about it!

I found my 6 1/4" Sprenger bit on ebay. The mare was PTS in 2010 but I've kept her bit in case I ever have another horse needing the same size as finding the right size bit was like finding rocking horse droppings! At the New Forest show this year one of the horse stands had a whole rail of different second hand bits and they were all over 6".

I have a very boring 6 1/4 loose ring sweet iron French link needing a home:)

Horse was pts over 2year ago, new mare is 5 1/4 - which is also rocking horse poo size :p

Thehorsebitshop.co.UK has a section with over6 inch bits. Sorry can't post link as on nexus and being a real pain to reply. The webpage is all lowercase

It is easier to get larger bits nowadays than it was ten years ago.

RidingBitz from Abbey Saddlery will make you want you want if you can't find it.

My horse really needs a 6.25 or 6.5 inch and has a really flesh large tongued mouth, so I think that this may be too small, but really kind of you to offer.

Donnie Darco thanks for the offer and I do have a nice NS one liek this, but am also looking for something with just a little bit more 'stopping' that I can use of 'fizzy' days out. As he has such a huge tongue I am looking for something quite slim as well!

And everyone else, thanks for the links, I will follow them up!

My girl takes a 7" bit, got her gag and snaffle from an american eBay site, be careful though as I had to pay a border tax on a couple of things I've bought from the USA

I remember having this problem when I was trying to find something suitable for my boy 7/8 years ago (it took me a while to get it right!)

He only needed a 6" and that was hard enough as he needed something a bit specialist (a hanging cheek mullen mouth snaffle with a thin mouthpiece) as he has a very large, slightly deformed tongue which meant a jointed bit was out of the question. The only one I could find that was suitable was a Myler but I seem to remember they had bigger ones again so you might have some luck there. They're expensive though :(

I too ordered one from Abbey and still haven't had it! Luckily hadn't paid for it.
