Got myself double barrelled tonight... Completely my own fault! But everyone at home is telling me to stop being a wimp.... And yup im struggling with stairs!! Hahaha at least you lot know how much it hurts!!!

Dont worry im not after sympathy... Well maybe a little... Its the works xmas party tomorrow... There goes my chance of wearing heels!!!

Dont you just love horses!!! :D

Ouch, I feel your pain !

I've got a broken big toe ( no fault of the horse) and couldn't get my boot on tonight . Therefore no chance of the heels for an awards ceremony tomorrow night - guess we'll both be rocking the party dress and flip flops look ;-)

Ouch! I am experiencing a strange and rare time of having no horse related injuries ! my mum however has her very black and blue arm in a sling, after being mowed down by a horse who didn't want a muzzle on. I got double barrelled a few months back and although it winded me I was very surprised to have no bruising or soreness... horse had no back shoes on but still ! seems that you got a bit more injured than me :p hope it stops hurting soon

Haha thanks guys!! Thankfully hes injured on box rest so also has no back shoes on!! Unfortunatly for me i was close enough to get the full force right on my thigh!!! 2 inches lower and he would have taken my knee out!!! I do love the ****** thou!!

Gasper thankfully i can get shoes on but my balance in heels sucks so having to hobble in them is a no go!!! Sorry to hear about ur broken toe thou hope it heals quickly!!

I think it was pay back as i acquired a new horse to ride on sunday having been out of the saddle since sept when my guy injured and was planning to ride for the first time tomorrow... It was his way of saying "oi im still number one!!" That and i accidently knocked his back leg with a fork whilst mucking out!! He just instinctively reacted!!

Well, you had my sympathy for all of 2 seconds (flip flops in Dec..brrrr!) until I saw where you live! Seriously, hope the toe gets better soon!

OP - ouch! I totally sympathise, got double barrelled by a friend's horse a few months ago. Horse is a bad mannered git but friend was poorly so I volunteered to look after him. Luckily, I saw it coming and managed to turn away a little so he didn't actually get my kneecaps but still couldn't walk properly for weeks in wellies, never mind heels. Just as well I work from home these days!

Lucky you, I got the double barrel in my stomach several years ago and was surprised just how black your stomach could turn and how much pain you could be in, but the heels I'd go with out. :)

I got double barrelled as a teenager by my mums arse of a section D, had a lovely hoof shaped bruise on my sternum, and flew a little way :D

What do you mean "completely my own fault"? There is never an excuse for a horse to kick you!

I got double barrelled a couple of months back, directly on both shins, and am still lame. It was totally my fault. I was poo picking near the back end of a nervous youngster, when I suddenly called out to someone (rather loudly!), and startled the filly. She kicked, I went down like a sack of spuds :D I forgot that she is a tad damaged and also young and that I can't behave how I did around her.

Hope your leg feels better soon Op, bet you are bruised tomorrow!

If you startle a horse, it can happen, one of mine has stringhalt, if you don't lower his foot and tell him to relax, it is a possibility you will get kicked, not his fault or mine, he lifts his feet on request, a tad too high and it sets off a spasm

I too got kicked last night whilst taking feed into my mares field. Kicked right out at me, knocked the bucket from my hand. 3 hours later, xrays and a fractured wrist. Yay. Got a cast on. But it's only a small fracture so hopefully they said should only be in it for 3-4 weeks :( I feel your pain

Youch! Poor you. What made her do that? Was she in with a herd or something?

It wAs my own fault. She just gets extremely exited around food and buckaroos about not normally towards me but she has such long legs and she kicked out in my direction and for the split second before she got me I actually thought she was gunna missv me, then it just felt like I had been smashed on my wrist with a sledgehammer. And then the instant weakness In my arm and she literally knocked the feed bucket out my hand.!she even grazed my skin, I dunno how As I was wearing really thick gloves and coat. She's in a field by herself btw.

That doesn't sound good. I would be tying her up or bringing her in to feed her, you can't have behaviour like that, as you have found, it is blimmin dangerous!

She is worse when I tie her up tbh, when I say buckaroo I mean away from me and trotting. Normally I tell her off and she settles straight away. Will give me loads of space and will only come over to eat when I give the command when the bucket is on the floor. She is normally very good, but it wAs dark and cold and I think she was a bit unsettled from something and I just walked in didn't even tell her to move out my way and she just did an almighty buck and kicked me. I think she was as shocked as I was as she started following me round the field all soppy eyed cuz I was pacing in agony even tho her feed was on the floor. Needless to say I was calling her all the names under the sun. I gave her a pat and she went and ate her good that was now sprawled all over the field floor. I also picked up the broken bucket this morning from her field

Another one here who got kicked and it was my fault. The first time of the season applying cold fly goo to a sensitive horse and I went to put some between her legs. She shot forward (I swear I could see a thought bubble screaming "JESUS CHRIST!!") and she got a hoof on each leg. Thankfully not shod and so I was just bruised, but I sure learnt to work up to things like that more slowly...(and warm up the goo a bit...).

Scary tho ain't it. For that split second the whole 5 mins leading up to what just happened flashes before your eyes. My mare is unshod and a tb and she still fractured my wrist. I dred to think what damage she might have done if she had shoes on.

I got bitten yesterday :( Ever had a horse clamp on your thumb and literally pick you up? It hurts WAH... Thank goodness I was wearing gloves, I have bites either side and currently have a super swollen thumb, bandaged with steristrips under... back to docs next Monday to check if its infected.. Hopefully the course of antibiotics and the tetanus will help me heal. Mucking out one handed is a nightmare.. and surcingles.. what a pain. And no, wasn't my horse.. and I will not be going near the biting culprit again, once bitten, twice shy...not giving ponio another go!

I got double barreled in the 80's in stomach, this led to a life long problems with migraines. I know what it feels like

Hope you are ok this morning ?
Thanks for asking!! I can hobble about! The pain wears off the more i move so i sort of hobble for like 5 mins after sitting down!! Im debating whether to jump on board my new loan boy this afternoon.... Its been 2 months since ive properly ridden and im dying to get back on board!!! Think the injured boy decided it was my time to join him in box rest!! Either that or he dislikes the fact i have a new mount to play with whilst hes off!! As they say no pain no gain!!!

I know exactly how that feels too ended up in a+e this time last yr when my TB kicked my hand... Thankfully didnt break anything! Hope u heal quickly :) blimmin horses eh! Who'd have em!!!!

Be careful. Whether it was her fault or not, someone I know was found dead in a field a few years ago, she had been kicked in the head.. You just shouldn't put yourself in situations where something could happen if you can at all avoid it.
