pacing

Hi, i've just got a lovely 13.1 hh hunter pony, he's 9 but seems to be very nervous, when my sister rides him he tenses up and paces which she finds very hard to rise to, if we can solve this problem he will make a super pony. Has anyone ever managed to solve the problem of a pacer and if so please tell me how, thanks Deb

Do you mean paces as in he trots with lateral pairs rather than diagonal pairs?
