Packaging a saddle??

My Mum did this. She asked Royal Mail for advice. They suggested to wrap with loads of bubble wrap, then tape a black plastic bag round it - I thought it would have to be boxed, but apparently not. We sent from Kent to Ireland & it arrived in perfect condition

Hiya, when i sold a saddle on ebay it was going to cyprus! I found a good sturdy box, wrapped the saddle well in bubble wrap, then all around the saddle in the box i screwed up loads of newspaper which then went into platic bags and just stuffed loads of that in, It arrived perfectly safe!

EEEK...no disrespect to Royal Mail but they wouldnt know a saddle if the fell over one. Id be more inclined to use bubble wrap, plastic and a cardboard box myself!

I must admit - I did think that myself!!!! But when it was all wrapped up it would have bounced if you'd dropped it!! However, it was a very old saddle. I would be inclined to use a box if the saddle is worth much. This one wasn't.

I posted one on Monday.

Went to local Supermarket and asked for a Crisp box outer. Loads of shredded paper and bubble wrap to keep it safe and padded. Inserted it seat down in the box.

Cost me £15 to post it via Parcel Force, including insurance.

sold mine the other week, went to saddlers who gave me a box they had one of their saddles delivered in and they even chucked in some bubble wrap. Sent mine with citylink and it got there next day in one piece and buyer left feedback saying delivery was excellent. Cost me about £10

I wrapped mine in bubble wrap & then put it in a television box....very sturdy...sealed it up & off it went. It arrived in perfect condition.

I received one once & it was parcelled like in a cartoon. It had been wrapped in bubble wrap & then wrapped all round in brown parcel tape......so when it arrived at my door I knew exactly what it was it just looked like a saddle with a brown plastic cover...amazing

Hiya I've sold three on ebay. Two posted, one collected. One was wrapped very securely in bubble wrap ( twice) and had extra put over the pommel and cantle to be extra sure. I use blue rubble bags as one item of packaging as well and I split two of them and parcel taped the lot. Loads of tape and home made stickers saying handle with care etc. That was an english leather saddle ( old type) The other a larger imported saddle which was also heavier was again bubble wrapped and placed in a box to be sent. Both reached the buyers fine and undamaged in any way. The latter saddle had stirrups too which were bubble wrapped so they would not stratch the leather on the saddle as the box was moved etc.
I always err on the side of caution when I send anything that may get damaged and always wrap well and put labels on to handle with care, or fragile etc.
Good luck

btw might be worth investing in one of those parcel tape dispensers as they are good when wrapping larger items. That's if you might be selling more items like the saddle. Think I got mine in a deal from pc world last year with several rolls of tape too.
