Anyone got any advice about padded headpieces - the sort where the nose band strap goes over rather than under the headpiece and some have a cutaway area to go around the ears. Elevator type, also done by Albion, Hy etc. Any thoughts, experiences appreciated, especially of cheaper brands as I don't really want to spend £70+ just on the headpiece. Thanks

Shires do a nice padded/comfort bridle, from the Salisbury range with either grackle/flash/cavesson noseband for around £50. I have one with snap hooks, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how long/well its lasted. x

Hi I have one by heritage that I really like, it came off eBay sorry I can't remember how much I paid now as it's a few years old!

You can buy an Elevator headpiece seperately. We'd not long had ours, when a friend kindly bridled him up before getting him out of the trailer as she has to bridle up hers before she takes hers out of the box, however he threw his head up and caught the throatlash on something and it broke. Fortunately had a spare bridle on board. Anyhow, I took it to a saddler who repaired it beautifully, but I also ordered a spare headpiece through a stockist, from memory was about £28 and took about a week to come, as I really like the quality of this bridle thought might be useful as the pony is a bit clumsy type and thought might do it again some time soon! Would just a headpiece match the rest of an existing bridle be a cheaper option? Think I paid about £80-85 at a stand at RWHS a couple of years ago for the bridle.

Thanks for the replies. I'd definitely want to buy the headpiece separately first to see if pony took to it and then add the pieces to end up with a very good bridle. Has anyone got the Hy branded version (or Hy anything else) as I don't know much about the brand?
