hi, anyone know of a brand that does a padded noseband where the poll area on the noseband is also padded, rather than the usual bridle-with-a-padded-headpiece?

have a previously headshy mare. she's actually pretty happy being ridden in her cheap bog standard bridle, but thought it would be nice for her royal gingerness. don't want a whole new bridle.

thanks :)

No because it would not be able to go through a normal browband, the padded poll bridles usually have the noseband strap over the top of the padding or the noseband has 2 buckles to fit it on, what about a poll pad that you could just put on yourself, it could just go over the noseband strap.

Stubben have just brought out a new bridle called 2500 freedom bridle and it's quite unlike anything I've seen before. It's padded in various parts and shaped too. My instructor is trialling one at the moment and the difference in her geldings head carriage is noticeable. Maybe look it up?

Wouldn't a normal comfort type bridle do exactly that? I've got an FSS comfort bridle and the noseband strap runs up through the headpiece and over the top of the headpiece over the poll. Or maybe I'm being completely thick here lol.

Caldene do a sheepskin poll pad, inexpensive (about £7 on Robinsons) and looks nice quality. Could possibly fit on the noseband too or just get a sheepskin tube for the noseband.
I think some of the other posters have missed the part where you said you didn't want to buy a new bridle. :)

Can you just get the padded headpiece? As others have said the noseband goes over the top of these and would save you having to buy a whole bridle. I've got a cheap FSS bridle and the headpiece is the only bit that's different.

Ha, cheap? I personally thought £70 was dear enough for a bridle haha.

I would have thought most horsey people know that there isn't a generic padded noseband of the sort the OP wants, unless custom made. In which case, I would suggest just going for an entire new comfort bridle.

I paid about £40 :) When I came back into horse ownership after a break and then sharing, I had nothing. I bought it on Ebay so I had something to use when my new horse arrived thinking I'd upgrade eventually. I had to buy new cheekpieces in cob size when my new horse needed a mix and match approach and I sometimes use a different noseband but 8 years on it's still going strong.

hi, thanks for the suggestions. i just could remember seeing something like this when the padded bridles first became fashionable. i think the cheekpieces were sewn onto the noseband headpiece. it was less bulky looking.

am going to have the local tack mender make something.

thank you.

Have you looked at Kate Negus? You can buy all parts of their bridles separately (right down to a keeper!). I love mine. You can get the padded headpiece and noseband from them. However they aren't cheap... I splurged at Olympia on mine after saving up. You do get 5% off if you're a British Riding Club member though :-)
