One of my ponies has had numerous hoof problems over the years all stemming from very serious laminitis he had as a 5yo (he has not had it since and he's now 21 but has been plagued by hoof things like absesses, bruised soles etc.). He is fine on soft ground but cant be footy on hard / stoney surfaces. He is barefoot trimmed and currently wears Boa's when needed but he cant wear these all the time as they'd rub.

I'd really like some sort of soft cover for the sole that still lets the hoof breathe etc. Ive been looking at Vettec's Sole Guard which you squeeze some sort of liquid onto the sole and it goes quite solid and stays on for about 3 weeks. However, I read on a forum that it goes quite hard which can then cause bruising!! I want something quite soft to protect it... any ideas??

My farrier puts Equipak in my boys feet - luckily going on the insurance at the moment but it really is brilliant stuff!

Have you tried something like 'Solemates'? These are really good pads that you can either tape on or put inside your boots, which provide comfort, but also help to condition and stimulate the foot at the same time. Have a look at this link www.aepsupplies.co.uk and they are on there

Equipak is unlikely to stay in, it stay in shod fee because the shoes are nailed on with a mesh under neath and the equipak is injected into this mesh.

Sole guard is pretty much your only option and it is unlikely to cause bruising
