Over the winter my horses have been at a new place and the paddocks there are full of stuff (in a good way!). There’s big trees/bushes but still lots of open parts, its got flat parts and hilly parts, amazing view, different terrain: grass, in areas under the trees there’s leaves and twigs, but nothing dangerous and it’s about 4 acres. It’s made me realise how a horse could possibly bored in a standard flat grass paddock, the summer paddock they’re in now is still lovely, but it isn’t as “interesting” of that makes sense, do people have any recommendations on how to make it more enriching for horses?

I am not very imaginative with this sort of thing, but I did install a scratching post, and I see that it is well used.

If horses are barefoot haynets can be tied off and used as ground feeders. Apple ash and willow branches are well received a net of barley straw on the fence is often enjoyed. Mine were on a track so did all this. Also left poles out for obstacles and hay boxes too. Spread carrot pieces in the field occasionally or fibre cubes if it wasn’t going to rain. Anything to encourage the seeking system. It’s very comforting for horses. They should ideally have hedges to browse on as grass exclusively isn’t ideal.
