Im looking to sort my grazing a bit so will section off in bits to treat it (I dont have very much land and horses are on it so will just have to do 1/4's at a time). I have no machinery so it'll need to be done by hand. There's various 20kg bags of horse specific paddock fertiliser online but it seems to come with different nutrients and levels... my areas usually low in magnesium so should I get one higher in that, Ive no idea!

I have lots of daisies and docks so Im guessing there isnt a week killer built into any of these fertilisers? Be great to have an all-in-1 but maybe that doesnt exist! Fed up spraying frequently all spring and summer trying to control the docks which just never seem to die and keep popping up!

Then Im thinking lime might be better as I think it makes the PH higher which docks dont like as much? Im also wanting to do all this ideally at the same time (within days) to keep the horses off it for the minimum amount of time, I cant keep the area fenced off for weeks when Ive got to do the other three quarters 1/4 at a time!

Advice from any grass-nerds please!

If you get a lime based one it will certainly sweeten up the ground and as you say the docks hopefully won't take over so much. I had 5 acres at my last place and used to buy the 20kg bags and just put it on my quad and trailer and scatter it around, worked well. You could put it in the boot of your car if you don't have access to a trailer. Do you have a knapsack sprayer? Go to an agricultural merchant and buy a dock specific herbicide, they are difficult get rid of as their seeds spread so easily. If you are really diligent about spraying them they will go eventually! I am onto this on my new property! You could also get a soil test done, most agricultural merchants will be able to do this or send it away for you, then you will know exactly what you are dealing with, it doesn't cost much. Lime is never wasted however and will do your land no end of good. With fertiliser just put it on before you expect rain and once it has rained put the horses back on, I only leave mine off for a day or two after spraying the docks as they don't go near them anyway.

I don't think it's very healthy for you to apply lime by hand? Progreen are really helpful, why not drop them an email?
