Ive a look on the website but cant really seem to get any indepth details on how it works or how to implement it?

has anyone read the book? id like to put a track system in this weekend for my porky ponies to keep themselves active.

how does it all work?!

Thanks :)

Have a read through these pages. http://www.performancebarefoot.co.uk/page63.html

Google is your friend for ideas but keep the track narrow, down to 12ft (safe for number of horses) wider at corners with wide feed areas and water away from feed are the basics. Many find just grass supplemented with hay works well so fancy surfaces are often a luxury but great! Avoid areas that get waterlogged in winter if poss.

ps. The idea is to increase movement and reduce grass intake.

Just be aware though that if the track is big enough you may still be getting new, fresh shoots coming through which are high in sugar and actually worse than lush, older, woody grass.

thanks for the replies. my issue is I have a bit of a mixed bunch!
The field-
1.2 acres in 3 sections of the paddock at present, one bare 3rd, one eaten down but a lot of dead grass on top where its been trodden on and green grass underneath and one 3rd with long long left over grass that's not been grazed,

The Herd-
one mini (too fat), one standard shettie (fairly good weight) and one 15.3 Cleveland bay X (could do with a few pounds)

To sort something for all of them is baffling me at the moment!! and id like to keep them together at all poss... any sugestions?! :S

I would track the edge and you could let the CB into the middle in the day or night if needs be but you will need at least two (three better) strands of tape and it must be working well, have one strand at mini nose height! When it's eaten down you may have to supplement with hay (?soaked) and I would keep the track narrow (12ft) for that mix except for corners and any feed and water areas. If there is a spot they like to rest (shaded area for eg) make that area wider. It can be adjusted when you see their habits.
Your main potential problem will be keeping the tape hot enough. I've had minis and up to 16hh on the same track successfully.

i can't really comment as i don't use paddock paradise, but do very happily and successfully use the racetrack system, a sort of smaller version with much less of the variety of surfaces etc.
