just wondering how long people leave horses off a grazing field, moving to another area, before putting them back on the original field when rotating, how long do you leave the grazing between horses being on and off

When I lived in Scotland 3 mths weather permitting.

Here in France I like to rest and cut for hay in rotation if I can. Which means out of commission for about 7-8 mths.

I have 3 fields each around 3 acres .We have 4 horses
This is the summer rotation each field is grazed for 1 week then moved to the next field, the field we have moved them off is harrowed and a couple of days later topped to cut down the toilet areas so each field has 3 weeks off in a month .
Our fields are always neat and tidy and there are no weeds, Winter they spend around 1 month on a field before moving on and and at the begining of march a field is rested to be the first turn out field for the summer.
This works for our set up.

sounds good, do u find harrowing every 3 weeks is ok in terms of the land, doesnt damage it or anything like that? is that also how yu deal with poo and not poo pick?

We do not poo pick with 4 horses it is a mamouth job.The horses do tend to poo in the toilet areas and harrowing spreads that as well as topping quite low to keep the long grass in those areas down.We usually harrow chains down rather than hooks down and only do hooks down twice a year we don't find any damage to the field .It helps to drag out any thatch .
On the pooh picking front I have always had the horses worm counted twice a year and have always come back with a zero count for the last 25 years !.Even with a zero worm count I do still worm equest primax spring and autumn as not all worms show in the worm count .
Our land always looks nice a neighbour described it as 'like living next to a Stubbs painting!' beautiful horses grazing in beautiful fields.
