I have a very nice silouhette working hunter saddle. it fitted wonderfully when I bought it early summer on my fit and difficult to fit welsh cob. He has bit shoulders, wide back, a bit of a dip and a bit back end.

He was out of work for two or three months due to trying to go barefoot. He has lost a lot of muscle tone so currently his saddle is a wee bit to wide and moves a bit behind. I dont want to have the saddle reflocked at present as I think in a few months time when he muscles up it will fit him fine. The saddle can be adjusted within a half size up or down and is warranted for a free reflock in the first two years so I plan to get it looked at next spring.

Any suggestions for good saddle pads? I have considered a suber pad but they cost to much for me to afford at present.

My saddle is also slightly too wide for my slimmed down Welsh cob. I find either a Prolite pad with thin numnah, or usual thicker wool numnah with Polypad pod.

Both work a treat.

Worth a try.

The normal prlite pad is good but expensive. It also doesn't rise the saddle much as it's the same thickness all the way along. Great if all you need is tiny bit of extra width though.

Have a look at Shires Shock Absorbing pad . It's the exact same material as prolite but is slightly thicker at the front (it doesn't say it on the descriptions for some reason, but it is!) and makes a brilliant slight front raiser. I use them for saddles that are slightly to wide (i.e coming out of winters) and they work brilliantly. And SOOO much cheaper than prolite.

How about the Aerborn gel pad with the 'V' cut in at the front? One just arrived for the SH whose saddle is a little low on the withers.
