Has anyone had any experiences of this with their horse? Vet's wording was - not true stringhalt but pain induced possibly due to an orthopaedic problem!

I suspect my old girl (27) has this. She has alot of arthritis and when I pick out her hind hooves, she often raises on or the other or both very high towards her belly which tends to lead to a bit of wobbling about and loss of confidence. I usually try to block the leg from coming to high be jamming the hoof against my own leg. When I release the foot she tends to leave it hoiked up and it does seem to jerk up and down a bit. This was a horse who always lifted every hoof for you as you bent to pick it up and could be shod without even being tied up. She only puts down the hoof when I move on to the other foot. I do find that she improves a bit if I pick up her feet religiously every day, better still twice a day and the reward of an extra-strong mint works wonders!!

mine developed a stringhalt like action about 6months ago it was not true stringhalt she didn't do it stight out the box but would do it continuosly in walk her hoof of the other leg would go well above her hock and slam in back down she wass kinda goose steping vets reaction this is interesting!! she had lateral extionson and wedges both of which she had had on before with no problems. so these came off and within 48hrs she stopped the goose steping and was normal she has since gone bk in just the wedges and is fine.dispite not doing this walk for months randomly when got cold the other day stated it agin but once warm vanished. since all this she has been diagnosised with artritis of the spine, and i cant help think this was a factor?

The Welder started to act as if he had stringhalt, turned out he had a foot abcess brewing and it stopped as soon as we sorted that out. Was funny to watch but worrying too!
