Pain on right flank only

Last night I noticed that my horse was finding it painful when i ran my hand down his right flank. (didn't react when I did it on his left side).

He is fine in himself and isn't lame or anything.

Does anyone know what this could be?

If it doesn't get any better I will be getting the vet out, just wondered if anyone had experienced the same?

Generally if mine show that kind of problem they've been kicked while in the field! If there's no evidence of swelling or bruising it's a tough one to guess. Like you, if the horse is happy otherwise I'd keep watching for the time being.

Thanks. I'm a worrier and always think the worst!

He probably has just been kicked though - there is a new mare in the field who he likes to show his interest in (which she doesn't appreciate!).

It's not like him to kick up a fuss, so I knew straight away there was something wrong.
