Since I have had this pony he always seems to have a painless large lump on his spine after he is ridden - I have tried numerous saddles all different widths and brands different saddles pads no pads - non really make a difference except one dense half pad that I have cut the spine out of it completely and this seems to do just the job no lump pony completely straight - my question is has any one else had an issue like this and can anyone offer any advice - I am not sure really what to do about it to be honest and riding bareback is not really an option ;)
Pic here -

Pony is a 5 yr Connie medium wide wither - we are getting the Native pony lady out to try fit him with one of their saddles to see if that makes a difference.

TIA :)

I think you have a basic saddle fit issue given that the cut pad helps. Where exactly does the saddle make contact with the horse either side of his spine? It can be hard to tell if he's not lean but it should sit on the large muscle that goes alone the side and ribs - not the area just either side of the spine. It's probably a case of your saddle being too narrow. Also, is it perhaps too long? Hopefully your saddle fitter can help determine that... Though in my experience some don't have a clue!

I think the same as you Barnacle but we have tried quite a few saddles now I think 8 different saddles at last count and they all look like they should fit non look to narrow - length might be a good point so I am having the Native specialist try and fit one but I am worried about spending the money and him still having a lump :(
interestingly I put the same pad on today with a Acavello lite- weight non slip pad underneath and surprisingly the lump came up so I then wondered about heat sensitivity as the Acavello pad is as soft as anything and shouldn't have affected him should it?
