Just a random thought - why is it that most stables are a plain wood stained colour? Is there any reason they aren't usually painted or coloured? I saw a set of really nice stables in the States a while back that were absolutely beautifully painted, white and blue to match the house (sounds hideous but it looked amazing).

Anyone know why? :)

You can't see the poo on a brown stable wall :)
I like stables that are top half white (to make it look bigger and lighter) and bottom half black (hide the poo).

Once saw a stable that one woman painted to look like the inside of a house. Flowery wallpaper, windows, home sweet home signs, vases and flowers etc.

If you mean the outside of the stables...I would guess they take more attention and re-painting to keep them looking nice.

Sorry I meant REQUIRE more attention...bad grammar :)

Also I think for planning permission, some stables are only allowed to be natural brown coloured or green etc?

yep planners like them to blend in, tho I do think there are smarter options than brown. Mine are dark green and white, and after the stables were done I did the shed, the hen house etc etc and even my trailer happens to be the same. Makes things look nice and smart.

I painted the interiors of the stables white as I think it makes them much more light and can cope with a poo stain or 3!

here are the stables (mini barn but with interior stable doors and exterior opening upper doors with inset windows (so if we have gales and or blizzards (we are in Cairngorms!) I can shut the top door but she can still see out/get light.
