Need abit of advice, our horsebox in need of a touch up, its white and its looking grotty, and its not worth it to send it to a body shop to be done (would probably cost more than what I paid for it). I was thinking about getting some outdoor gloss (black) and just painting it that. Ill be sanding down and filling holes prior to painting. Just wanted some tips to see if anyone else has painted theres themselves?

Edit - I know if i did paint it black i would have to send the V5 doc to DVLA for change of colour :)

My older box is painted by us, usually red gloss, gloss roller etc. It does wear off and look weathered every 2 years or so hence needs redoing but way cheaper than a professional job!
I know someone who did theirs with a paint sprayer they had, in the sunlight you could see which bit they had done when etc hence i prefer the gloss roller myself.

Outdoor gloss a VERY bad idea - try tractor paint (sometimes called tractor enamel instead). Not that expensive and can be rolled on. Also, beware black - it's very unforgiving of the smallest imperfection........dark red p'raps?

Yeah your right turnbuckle!! I wonder if they do a grey! Anything than this white its driving me insane! just looks awful!!! lol

When we was gonna do ours people suggested tractor paint, said it does a brill job! But we ended up sending it to spray shop instead. It was a ruin though, a tidy up just wouldn't do haha, my box is a blue/grey and burgandy :)

How much did you pay for it to be sprayed if you dont mind me asking?

Hi we paid £1200. It was done by someone we know though, but I don't know if that made any difference or what the going rate for boxes being done is. I will attach some pics, we had added tack lockers etc and the wagon was a mess, so it was quite a job tbh.

If yours is only due a tidy, you might not even be looking at over 1k :)

We painted ours with metal gloss paint from Aldi! It went from Manky Maroon to British Racing Green, with vinyl decals. We have enough paint to touch it up when necessary.

We used six litres, we bought eleven, so have nearly enough to do it again:D The decals cost more than the paint! Without the decals it looked a bit 'dead', but we are rather proud of it :)

Used Santex Wood and Metal paint on my lorry, rubbed it down with sandpaper and painted it by hand. Brilliant finish and cost about £35, had nearly a tin left so touch it up as and when needed. 2 years later still looks fab
