Just looking at options to add to our current business. My dad is an amazing painter, he paints horses, cats & dogs, I am thinking I might ask him if I could advertise him on my site to paint watercolurs etc from peoples photos. Would you buy something like this and how much would you expect to pay?

I do this (pet portraits) and tend to find some people dont want to pay a lot, Ive worked my prices out on the basis of £10 per hour as I know how long it take me to do a portrait, but Ive still had people say how expensive they are, the Tiger in my sig took 34 hours to paint and is for sale at £350, and people have been shocked at the price, but they dont seem to realise the hours that go into it... but I refuse to work for less, though I do 50% off offers now and again.. I do it to make a living, but some people think your a charity and want them for next to nothing..

i agree

People wont pay very much for a pet portrait. I sell mine from £65 for an A4 and £85 for an A3 size. but many wont pay this much. I even include a frame and mounting card for this price. Its not the most lucrative career in the world. we are not called starving artists for nothing.

I don't want to sound critical of you artists - I would love to be able to draw or paint.

I think there is a market for really good drawings, but I think there are a lot of second rate one's around and people don't want to pay for a picture that shows their horses colour and markings, but other than that, it could be anyone's horse/dog/cat.

My friend paid a lot of money for one of her horse and it's really good and you know instantly it's her horse.

I think I'd rather have a really good professional photo and that seems to be the new thing.

I once spent HOURS on a picture and asked for a VERY reasonable £40. They told me they could no longer pay me and ignored me :\ I was furious! Payment up front from now on.

My mum does water colour paintings and she charges anything from £60-£200
