Never done this before so wouldn't have a clue how much to expect to pay. If I had a photo that I wanted a painting of..has anyone done this or know anyone and how much could I expect to pay??

Hi,

I would say how long is a piece of string, what medium do you want the artist to use, how big do you want the final commission to be, what do want, portrait or full body, does the artist insist on a visit or will they work from photos?

Good luck

My husband charges about £350-500 depending on what you want. There are cheaper out there, and more expensive. Make sure you see other pictures the artist has done, many do nice enough pictures but they don't make it look like your horse as opposed to any old brown horse.

If you want my husbands details pm me. You may have seen his work at burghley or your horse live.......

A lady who keeps her donkey with me does this! I didn't know for ages as she doesn't advertise orrr...mention it or anything really however when i found out i demanded to see her work ;) hehe. She's constantly amazed that people pay her money to do it and mentioned that she had only just recently put the price up to over £100 pounds!!

Think she does everything in the animal area, she has some of the most amazing ones of labs and cockerels! As i can remember i saw a few horsey ones and they were also very good (but she'd been experimenting with the lab/chicken ones on black paper etc and they were incredible!). If i remember rightly she was in the process of doing one from a photo when i popped in. And i don't know if she does different sizes but they all seemed to be quite a bit bigger than A4 but not quite A3.

I thought she would be much more expensive (the £300/400 area most animal artists seem to be) but having learnt how comparatively cheap she is (think it's cos it's a hobby and not her job) I am considering getting one of my maresum! Hope that helps :)

i had my beloved rotti done by a wonderful lady in stoke he sadly passed away aged 13 so i sent her some photos , she chose one and did me a fantastic pencil drawing for £180 and even packaged it flat and sent it to me in spain
when i opened it i cried ...the pic came to life
she does horses too if your interested i can try and find her number ?
but she only does pencil

I had a painting of my mum's late B stallion done by Pippa Porley and it was AMAZING!!
Cost £350 + £40 for fram and double mount (optional), the picture was just HIM through and through.

oooh, any chance to show my pic off... here's one of my Raff, painted by Stephanie Greaves, she's based in Newmarket. And i cannot emphasise how PERFECT this pic is of Raff, I actually find myself stroking it as i walk past as it's like having him in my dining room... it's the nicest thing i have in my house!
