Hi all

I am entering a pairs hunter trial for the first time with a friend. We are not sure how these things work! Do we go around the course together at the same time or do we go around individually and then our scores count together?? Or is it different at every event?

You go round together you each get separate penalties if you stop etc.. and you are timed together so you have one time for the 2 of you.

In our one in april we have a dressing fence which you both have to jump together and you get penalties if you are not jumping together

Hey yeah they are really great fun, u start together and it is up to you how close you stay to one another round the course - apart from dressing fences usually marked (P) or (D) which you have to jump together - there cannot be daylight seen between the two horses!
Then in time sections time starts when 1st horse crosses start and finishes when last horse crosses finish!
good luck!!! where is it?xx

It's at smallwood in Cheshire. It sounds like great fun!

You usually have to jump at least 4 dressing fences and are given penalty points for how 'together' you are. ie 0 penalties jumping alongside, 5 penalties 1/2 a horse length down and 10 penalties for more than a horse length or more apart.
