OH has managed to get a job again so at last we can buy a tow vehicle (used to use his work pick up but he was made redundant in Jan). We've had a try of a Pajero this morning & it passed the major test of can a shorty like me reach the pedals, so that is what we are looking for. OH is off to see one tomorrow while I'm at Keysoe. Anything in particular he should look out for?
It's a 2 hour drive away so he needs to make a yay or nay decision on 1 visit.

I had a Pajero and I had a reoccurring alternator problems with it. Basically the alternator had sheared loose so the belt was constantly loose and the battery kept going flat...I was constantly having to get jump started.
I spent a fortune on getting it repaired (by soldering and by having it rebolted) but every few months it kept happening again.

I thought it was just my car but 2 of my friends who owned Pajeros also had the same problem (although there's were fixed by rebolting the alternator)

My tip would be to check that the alternator isn't loose or see if there is any evidence of it being fixed.

A quick google has also revealed this thread http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=62606&sid=4c85c29fffc44912bf6ea57c78a97946 (if you scroll about halfway down there is a post about the problem I had)

Also have you spoken to your insurance. The pajero is classed as an import, I believe and some insurance companies won't insure them (I'm with Tesco and they will)

Yes there ok check it has clean coolant and the oil is ok find out if the thing has been serviced regulaly try and see it start from cold and take it for a good longish run if you can
....

One of the biggest issues is the fuel seals..........costs about £300 to repair, basically the vehicle will just cut out after about 1 mile - but will always restart until temperature is reached ( common recognised fault )
I put up with this for 18 months and just had it repaired...........no regrets with the pajero and would get another.
I have the SWB 2.8 diesel auto '94'..............

I've just brought one and so far so good, much prefer it to the XTrail I had despite the XTrail being much newer and posher!

I found the insurance really expensive though, mine was 500 a year but I have points and an accident (no claims was protected though at +9 years) so still a lot

I've had one for 3 years and it is fab and my friend had it for 2/3 years before that for her trailer and again had no probs. It has even been completely submerged in water during a flood from a river bank and started first time once it had dried out! I love it!
