My husband was watching a video on YouTube of the Severn Valley Railway. I am fairly old, and cannot work out how to put the link up, but there was several minutes at the beginning of 2 lovely palomino ponies. The Earl and the Scotsman.

That was lovely footage. Many years ago, 70's/early 80's there was a programme on about the canals and following a narrowboat along the Grand Union. I used to rent a little paddock alongside the canal and that summer my mares and foals were in it. Was watching the programme when suddenly there were my girls. It was a lovely sunny day and looked idyllic. I wrote in to the production company asking if there was any chance of stills from the film and got a firm no. So disappointing as we hadn't even got a video of it. I can't even remember what the programme was called or what channel it was on.

Rather rough bitey face play by the ponies 😳, but fabulous footage of the Flying Scotsman on her recent visit to the Severn Valley Railway. Was sold out before I heard of it!

Thank you! The only socially acceptable use of coal today 😉 I so love the sound of a steam loco. Also reminds me of David Bowie's best track (in my not incorrect opinion 😄) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpIhsGg2SJ0

AI google suggests Jam Ole Run. Maybe ask on Canalworld website?

Thanks for the Bowie ref. Just listened to this and have now gone down a Bowie wormhole !!! He was a genius - still can't believe he's gone (sorry a bit off topic) x

They have them fairly often. But this year has been very high risk because of the lack of rain since spring. Network rail have had black restrictions (no steam) on and off, and most heritage railways have been limiting their use of the steam locos. So probably very sensible of them to want to minimise the fire in Scotsman - would have put a real dampener on the occasion!

Twice in the 40 + years my husband worked on the farm, he's had to utilise whichever machine was closest to hand, to make a break to prevent a fire caused by a steam engine from spreading.

My son is complaining that they've changed the number (was 4472), class, livery, BR instead of LNER, added smoke deflecters, and why is there a diesel on the back? Still a beautiful sight and wonderful sound.
