Just listening to the radio about this and have had to turn off, i feel sick, really want to try and watch the program but dont think i will be able to stick it, i just hope they are making clear the B?@~ards who are doing this are to blame not the poor dogs, i cant stand the thought that they are going to demonize the dogs on prime time tv
is anyone going to watch it??

No, I would find it too upsetting.

Did you hear about the NFL guy who is being done in the US for dog fighting?

They're sick b*stards and deserve to rot in hell for what they do.

SICK SICK SICK, i cant even discribe what i think of them, and they go home to their family and act all normal after they have been to one of these fights - HOW?
Hell is too good for them, bring back "hang drawn and quartered"

Totally agree with you about being sick b******s. Check this web site out who are trying to wipe out dog fighting.

They make me soo angry and get my blood boiling. Some direct action really needs to be taken. Although this website is in the states.

Sorry I should have warned you. I blubbed my eyes out. They are just such loyal, kind and soft dogs, when looked after properly. It makes me so mad people that do this to them.

Absolutely disgraceful the people who do this. I won't be able to watch it, I'm far too sensitive to sit through something like this. I just hope it highlights the UK's major problem with dog fighting.

I can't watch that stuff but if it turns one viewer into a campaigner against it then it's worth showing. It worries me that there are such sick twisted people out there sharing air with the decent people.

I'm atually watching it now... they have just shown a picture of a child that has been mauled by a dog fighting pitbull

it's horrifying.

Those poor children/animals... GRRR!!!!!!!

This programme made me so so mad! Jesus what scum - especially the chap that let his dog fight until it was spent and then tried a DIY euthanasia by electrocution. He wants those electrodes clipping on him the b*st*rd!

The sad fact is I don't think it will EVER be stopped. It was banned in 18 something and 200 years later is as alive as ever...what is the solution?

When I worked at an animal shelter, we'd a bull terrier cross dumped over the gate late one night after nearly dying in a fight ... half one of his ears was missing as was his lower lip - he did make a full recovery and was found a loving home - and he had the most adorable lovable nature...

hanging's too good for the humans involved

Thats why I feel for the breed...they only have their reputation because they keep falling into the wrong and unresponsible hands. Most have lovely natures!

No idea how it could be wiped out unfortunately. Most of the scumbags involved in dog-fighting are also involved in other crime too so are probably known to the police. Many years ago I was involved in an RSPCA case regarding badger baiting. When the culprits were investigated they were found to also be involved in dog-fighting and also illegal egg collecting amongst other things. The people involved were highly unpleasant and threatened me regarding giving evidence for the RSPCA but untimately they did get convicted but got a very minimal sentence - this included a ban on the keeping of dogs but how can that be policed and as the ban does not extend to partners and members of the family does it really have any function at all?
The main down-fall in the DDA is how to correctly identify the breeds on it. I was once asked to attend a RTA by the police and the area was cordoned off as apparently the 2 dogs knocked down were pitbulls - when I got there both the dogs were actually Shar Peis. It's difficult for police that may not have an animal back ground to identify specific breeds and there are a lot of breeds that more closely resemble a pitbull than shar peis do. Also I've met several nice pit-bulls and several dangerous dogs of other breeds. What constitutes a dangerous dog needs to be redefined. I agree with your comment in the other thread that possibly a licensing system should be set up but possibly this would only send the breeding and owning of these animals further underground.
My own personal goal after watching this programme is going to be regarding the passporting of these dogs to allow them to travel abroad and if a dog does resemble a pitbull then I may refuse to passport it. A drop in the ocean maybe but at least I can feel I'm doing something although I strongly suspect most of these dogs have dodgy passports anyway....

I did watch the last section and skipped the bits where it looked like they might show a fight. The most frustrating thing is the ease with which these 'people' move the dogs around the world from fight to fight and to hide them and the ridiculous penalties handed out when they do get caught. The dog that was shipped from Ireland over here to fight was down as a boxer cross. Don't the authorities even bother to check WHY the dog is being moved? The owner wasn't moving, it wasn't being done by a reputable rescue centre, just a random man moving a cross breed dog that was obviously a pit bull type.

Everyone involved should be fined (as this is all wrapped up in gambling and money, so hit them where it hurts) and thrown in prison, banned from EVER owning a dog again, banned from travelling and put on a register in the same way as a paedophile.

it is so sick!!!!!!there are so many pit bull crosses around me and none have a liscence which they are ment to. but the worst thing is they are crossing them with bigger more powerfull dogs which i think is like having a timebomb in your house.now i am a great believer of its the owners that make a dog what it is but i also think some dogs you do have to be carefull of, for instance the alaskan malamutes, huskys, wolf lookalikes are one person dogs not family dogs, while the some of the dogs that are on the DDA are more of a family dog, people have a bad perception of rotties because yes they are bred to protect but the germans breed them to be family and guard dogs, i have always had them and i love them to bits as they are so loyal but gentle. but i would never x one with another breed. when i worked in a rehoming kennels we had an older staff and he was stolen from the kennels couple months later he was found by the police he had been living in a car the whole time and had been used to train younger dogs to fight. for ages we couldnt let him near another dog for fear of him killing it, but with loads of hard work he was again dog friendly, but it was so upsetting to watch him trying to tear the kennel door down to get to another dog because of what they had done to him

I did watch it in the end, but hid behind a cusion when the fighting bits were on, i cant beleive people like that are only given a few months in prison when thier dog kills a little girl, what the hell is going on, i realy HATE these people we should throw them to the lions and see how they like it.
A question for anyone - is a dogs breed put on the microchip? if so how can they be brought in to the UK, or do the breeders do the microchipping?
We had problems in France because of Minnies passport saying she was a Staffi x, so how come we get asked questions and total scumbag, evil, criminal, let me get my hands on them B,stards dont?
I can see i am going to rant about this for quite a while, i found the Dante link quite hard, woops

i have not slated any breed and i apologise if anyone should think so. i have just stated that some breeds are more of a one person breed (will bond to one paticular person rather than a group of people because in their true environment usually have one master in their eyes)i would not slate any of these breeds as these are breeds i have always admired. i was gutted when while i was working in a vets an alaskan malamute was brought in to pts he was a yr old and a beauty but the owners never reserched the breed their kids mauled it all the time and they never disiplined it so as a result it turned very nasty.

Ive got a malamute and she is lovely with the kids, bad owners not bad dogs. Our inuit is great as well and they have lovely temperments. They both love the whole family, I wouldnt say they were one person dogs, they both love all people.

All of my inuits have super temps too! Love meeting people and children and when we took two of them to Chepstow horse trials every dog they met snarled or growled at them, including whippets/labs/retrievers and terriers.

Perhaps you should meet some before making generalisations!

Yes a dog's breed is recorded on the microchip documents. I would assume in these cases the owners of these dogs claim them to be boxer crosses or sbt crosses when they are chipped and so they are recorded as such. Also when passing through customs, all the custom officer will check is that the number on the chip corresponds to the number recorded in the passport - ie that it is the same dog and therefore had the relevant innoculations, blood tests etc. He would have to contact Petlog to find out details such as breed which may have been "inaccurately" recorded anyway.
