Vet seems to think dog has above and wants him on a low fat diet. Has recommended one of the science diets dry foods which you can only get on prescription, or on line from certain places. Obviously this is very expensive. I have at the moment put him on chicken, fish and potato. Obviously he is not getting the full mineral and vitamins he needs. What else can I give him for fibre ? Also vet does not want him on vegetables either because they might ferment in his tum? Any input gratefully received

My girl had a month on Chappie ( tinned) when she came out of the vets, as it is mega low fat and I would not line the pockets of Royal Canin, then onto Nutriment Low Purine, she has been fine on it.

have a look at Nature diet they can advise on their help line, I think the sensitive range is very low in fat but they are best placed to advise.

Vet recommended Hills ID which is nearly £12 for 1.5kg and about £54 for a large sack! He is insured but has been in and out of the vets
formerly for upset tums etc which we thought was a bug or food allergy. Had to declare on insurance form when taking out insurance so I expect they will exclude anything to do with his tum

Tinned chappie is good.
it depends on if hes having a severe attack or chronic rumbling pancreas issues.has he had bloods done or a scan? or is it a case of treat like a pancreatitis dog with diet mods to see if it makes a difference?

if hes poorly with it I'd get a few tins of the gi/id food to tide you over the worst(the prescription diets are expensive but they do have a very high sucess rate... if the dog will eat them)..then wean onto the chappie.tinned chappie only though.dry stuff is dire and would be a very bad idea for a dog with panceatitis.

Poor dog pancreatitis can be very uncomfortable.

Its worth contacting the insurers as well if he has chronic pancreatitis knowing what they will cover early on could be helpful.

He has had tummy trouble since we have had him but on and off, perhaps two or three days each month. Originally thought it was a food allergy, then acid reflux. He hasn't had any bloods or tests but vet seems pretty sure that's what it is.

Well have just collected my Hills I/D low fat food and according to the label it has 7% fat, Chappie has 3%! I have looked at the
other foods like Butchers that I have been feeding and that only has 6%, so cant see why he has been having flare ups! Think vet wanted to keep costs down and try diet first rather than bloods and x rays . I will pay for whatever he needs. Got to go back in 2 weeks so will see what she has to say,

with a diagnosis with no bloods I'd be changing vets.. unless you asked him not to due to cost

Me too, and even then question other possibilities.
Pancreatitis seems to be being diagnosed an awful lot lately. My friend is a dog groomer and says half her clients have it and are on special diets.

My little chi's story is far to long to tell here but, even though her none of her symptoms were consistent with pancreatitis vet was sure it was that. Her bloods showed a little something, enough to convince them. After faffing with her diet (she was on raw which they didn't like) they then decided it was pyo, again, bloods and a scan showed something to convince them, so she was spayed.
Long story short, insisted on a referral, was diagnosed immediately on history of symptoms but still had new tests to confirm. She had meningitis.
So if I'd accepted the first diagnosis without argument god knows where we'd be now.
