Welcome to the forum.

I think I recognise the underside of that make of saddle :).

I have a Fairfax Classic GPD which doesn't have that indentation, and a Fairfair Classic dressage which does. In practice, when you run your hand along the panel the indentation is not noticeable on the bearing surface as it would sit on the horse's back.

If you are thinking of buying, don't worry about it. They are lovely saddles, and my horse adores hers. They have a nice wide channel (essential for my mare with her wide backbone) and very evenly sized and correctly stuffed panels - not too hard, not too soft.

I suspect it's designed to let the top of female rider's thigh to sit closer to the horse.

Thank you everyone, yes it’s related to Fairfax since it’s the newest Kent & Masters Low Wither GP. I just ordered one to try on my Fjord mare…
It makes sense that it might be to achieve less bulk under the thigh, since the K&M marketing on this one is all about low profile panels and getting a closer-contact feel on broad cobby horses. Hopefully that’s the case, since my current K&M Compact GP has a weird feel under the upper thigh! ?

Yep K&M have this on most of their saddles.

Ironically making it less bulky here is more likely to promote outward rotation of the leg, some people need more support here, not less. And mostly we need to fit bones, so it matters not if it's a female leg or a male leg, chunky or skinny...
