My previous supplier let me down very badly so I tried another - ghastly paper - totally useless. My previous supplier came up with excuses for his failures and promised faithfully to deliver last Friday, then Saturday - guess what! The leopard doesn't change his spots.

I'm making a list of people to contact: so far have Keltenstone, Signford (supabed) and Purebed. Can anyone recommend anyone else. (Looking at 150 bales + every couple of weeks.)

Janet,

Have you tried / considred Ecobed - litte cardboard cubes. Every bit as good as paper and you will get a good discount because of the quantities you want.

Yes, I second the cardboard bedding! I've used it for the past two years and it is MUCH better than paper which treads EVERYWHERE!

However, it ain't cheap, and no way can I get away with one bale a week, but it is warm and absorbent, and horse liked it.
I am now trying Aquamax, and it seems remarkably economical to date. Will give it another few weeks before coming to a conclusion.

Have you tried Woodlands Paper Bedding in Great Shefford, Berkshire? They supply a lot of the racing yards and will deliver to most places. You can find details of them in the net - might have to google on Woodlands Enterprises for the phone number.

Thanks - but I've tried two different varieties of cardboard and hated it. It just worked out far too expensive too.

and who said it was expensive ????? its half the price of shavings and you get more quantity and throw away less x

I had it on rubber matting too. I needed 2 bales to give a modest covering as compared to 1 of paper - and needed twice as much to top up and keep a dry bed. And it was slightly dearer than paper. Shavings are silly money now - and not absorbent enough on mats (the wee just seeps under the mats and creates a stink!)
