YO decided at the weekend that she no longer wanted us to use shavings and therefore we either have to have straw or paper.

So being that Blue eats straw I dutifully dug out my bed last night and replaced with paper.

However this doesnt seem to have gone down too well with the wee man. Normal I get 3 little poos in a neat pile on the edge of the bed and wet in the same patch every day.

This morning however he spread the poo everywear and completely messed up the bed and when I walked up the stable he had his back to me (normally whinnys as soon as I open the car door)

He was very angry with me!

He has been on shavings for the last 10 years, so is this a normal reaction to a bedding change which will eventually settle or should I be concerned that I may die at the hands/hoofs of a very p**sed off 11hh pony?!?!

I'm no expert though! I'm sure these guys will be able to advise you properly, I just wondered why no shavings are allowed.

oh! ok well i have no idea about the way hes reacting to the bed, sorry

. i personally dont like paper, but cant you use wood pellets or something else?

I am going to have a chat with her this evening as I really dont like paper and I dont think Blue does either. I know plenty of people in the area that do take away shavings so I might see if I can convince her to let me carry on and arrange to have my own waste taken away.

I used to use paper but it is a bit messy. I found that it works better with rubber bedding.

Perhaps when the yard owner realises how messy the yard will get she will change her mind!

Would she let you use cardboard - it's more like shavings!

Might sound daft, but how is the paper shredded?
The one i have in at the moment has paper for banks and mixed into the straw bed.
We tried bog standard paper shreds, but found they were too long, got caught up around feet etc etc.
Now we have cross cut paper, and now i find it no different to shavings and she doesnt either!
