I have been using this shredded newpaper bedding for a month or so, for a wet old pony who was costing a fortune on Aubiose. It's in blue-wrapped 21kg bales. Today I bought a bale and tipped most of it onto his bed, and am horrified to find it contains mainly shiny coloured magazine paper, bits of shredded plastic - the clear plastic wrapping that the weekend supplements come in - and worst of all, clumps of newspaper around staples. The staples I have found are all closed, and as the shredder hasn't been able to get close to them, so they're in large twisted chunks of newspaper, I hope the risk of the pony ingesting one is negligible. However, the shiny paper is not going to be absorbent, and the plastic is completely unacceptable.

I've emailed the manufacturers but probably won't hear from them on Sunday. Has anyone else used this bedding and had any issues with it?

paper is **** for wet and messy. get a big big shavings bed and take wet out every day and top up twice a week (appprox half a bale at a time). small beds are un economical as the wet runs through. fine shavings are better as the piddle patches are contained. aubiouse or easibed the wet runs through the whole bed................. a big stinky mess.................... staples are not a good addition to bedding.

I've used Paperdown now for several years and never had this problem think you may have just been unlucky. I agree it's not ideal for very messy horses but I'd say that mine is not the cleanest and I manage on 1-1 1/2 bales/week and to make a new bed in a 12x12 box I only need 2 bales so find myself clearing out and starting afresh at least every 2 months. Is very light to work with so great for those of us who suffer with our backs.
