A few months ago, I had a chat with another forum member about mecate reins. I was espousing love for my alpaca reins while she really rated her paracord ones.
If that was you, please raise your hand and tell me where you bought your reins. The alpaca reins get stiff as hell when they get soaked, and they stay that way for about three days. I had a bit of a pants schooling session today because they were still wet after Wednesday's hack, and they don't work as well. The whole system relies on subtle cues, which get muddled when your reins feel like pool noodles.
To survive winter, I'll need some paracord ones that don't mind getting wet and work as back-ups if I get caught out with the alpaca ones.
