You should meet my horse. He really is cynical. The looks he gives my instructor when she asks us to do something new are hilarious (apparently). She describes them as "are you serious?", "just F*** off!", "Oh no, not this again...".

Right...you've inspired me, I might just try and get my diva to climb on a barrel tomorrow. I will post some photos of what I imagine will be the hilarious results...probably mostly consisting of me lying on the floor and her cantering round madly!

One of the aspects of Parelli that even some Parelli students question is this hitting horses (however softly!) round the face. It's not necessary, but it is taught sometimes.
The lady mentioned in the first post shouldn't be attempting to "Parelli" a young horse that is being started, she doesn't have the experience. (How do I know that? Oh, call me psychic, but I doubt she's passed Parelli level 3).
Parelli introduces the use of spurs, and curb bits for that matter, at the higher levels. In common with a lot of training, they consider that spurs are a relevant tool if the rider is skilled enough and has control of their legs. I'm sure you all know the reasons behind any rider using spurs, they should be a light addition to back up a soft aid, and many consider a touch of a spur to be kinder than nagging a horse by kicking.
I'm an NH student (not Parelli) and I can assure everyone that I ride my horses. Oh, and I don't ever feel the need to hit them round the face.

Couldn't agree more. I have spent time bombproofing my mare, it's been well worth it. But I don't need a DVD to show me how to do it. I was once at a yard with a big gang of the freaks all doing parelli together. I was meant to be riding with one of them one day. Ok, so off I go, groom and tack up, and ready to go. Where was my riding buddy? Playing some idiotic sequence of games in the school. I waited and waited...and waited...out she comes, horse isn't tacked up. Ok we are ready she said and proceeded to walk her horse out in hand while I rode. I'm afraid these are the only type of "Parelli" people we come across in the real world. It's not a good advert I'm afraid. Incidentally the same woman cannot worm her horse with a syringe and doesn't vaccinate it because she's "scared of the vet" Maybe they would be more useful problems to concentrate on than waving a schooling whip around and calling it a carrot stick!

Slight rant over... and relax.

i am now still, a MASSIVE sceptic of Parreli, as it STILL seems to be a huge marketing ploy,......."Common-Sense" via the internet.....

AND I STILL WISH I'D THOUGHT OF IT FIRST.........

Oh, I am thrilled!
There are a lot of idiot Parelli students, but when I look around many livery yards I have to conclude that there are a lot of idiots around horses - full stop. I would say to anyone who has more than a passing interest in NH, it is worth getting out and about and seeing some of the other trainers that are about. They can be very different...
