...I just looked at the title! I meant "Their" not "They're" I'm usually so strict with myself about that! Darn!!!

It's very interesting to read all these experiences! Some parents are scary :p

I guess i also livid through my daughter when she was younger but never once did I make nasty comments or in any way put pressure on daughter - shows were fun and hey if there was no rosette there was still a big hug for doing so well - we both have the most brilliant memories of shows with "wicky" and "Rhaps" days of fun and laughing and never a tear from her either - now 22 she still rides mine and any other horse going lol and is Captain of the Uni equestrian team so hey guess got it right :) so yeah you can live through youre children in a positive way - it must always be fun with no pressure and hey never ever criticize(sp) the judge or fellow competitors - just fun fun fun with memories and photos(omg some of fancy dress photos lol) to look back on :) such happy happy times x

I think my dad has lived through both me and my brother, but in a nice way.
I think i was born with racing blood in me, so although he hasn't forced me to do anything, it was inevitable id want to go down that road. Sadly i haven't got a P2Per yet, but I will for my gap year, for now we team chase which is close enough. Hes always been keen for me to event/show jump and ive gone from 2.6ft on my last pony to 1.10m/1.15m on my current horse... but now concentrate on team chasing as he doesn't like the hard ground.
I guess in some ways he is pushy, if my horse isn't fit, i don't go competing, so I ride in all weathers, before school and after school.... but I love it. There have been times where I have cried because I feel I have let him and my horse down, but thats all part of the game. I wouldn't change any of it for the world.
Hed never say I had done badly, but I know when hes proud of me and I know when he thinks I've done well.
I think though, because I WANT to do what I do, hes the way he is re. getting horses fit etc. my brother hated jumping so never was made to apart from the odd hunter trial.

yes annielusian there are scary parents out there but its their loss as the memories you have of your children growing up are priceless and you can never turn time back so just enjoy and show your children what fun ponies and then horses are hey you never know where that will take them - I can not listen to "simply the best" by tina turner with out a tear in eye and goose bumps - we qualified for festival champions in lead rein equitation - hey we were thrown out in first bunch lol - up against the producers was going to happen but trotting round with daughter to that song - my proudest moment because she qualified and was there and still has tears - happy happy times of smiling child :) 12 years later she was placed at championships so hey guess im proud mum to have a lovely daughter who shows manners and sportsmanship to her fellow competitors :) xx
