I am very excited as my 14 year old son - now 6'2" and size 11 feet - has announced he would like to ride again. He hasn't done so for 6 years! He is happy to ride my in foal mare, who has chilled out a lot, and isn't likely to be tearing around so thats OK but...
What clothes? His girlfriend rides so he needs to look 'cool' I suspect minimum expenditure is a hat and a pair of joddy boots, but can he ride in jeans if I get him a 'proper' pair? Or man jods?
Cheap please, finances are non existent.

I'm so excited, I was gutted when he gave up. Last time he rode it was on a 12.2!!

Ah thats great, I have ridden in jeans before, i have even ridden in jogging bottoms (prob not reccomened) If he doesnt like man jods perhaps a pair of jeans that are not too loose fitting. and long boots may look cool too. Best of luck to you all

My YO's son wears full length chaps with surf shorts or jeans or something a long those lines. They're not funny looking cowboy ones or anything just practical looking ones. He then wears joddy boots with them. However I'm sure some jeans would be fine.

my brother who is nering 18 wears full length chaps and jeans underneath with johd boots and then a t shirt... or you could go for the cheaper option and buy him a pair of bandages adn wrap them round his legs

the guys at my yard do it for excercising the polo ponies!

Sounds like jeans then. I wonder if his Dads would fit...

I have half chaps he can wear, they are too big for me. Can't see him going for the Drs and Nurses look!

I'm so nervous, I wonder if he will be. Must also get rid of annoying little brother for the first time, who will want to tear around and show off. We will hack I think, he never did like circles.

Clodagh, I am delighted to hear that Dixie is in foal, which stallion did you go with?

I dont see why he could not ride in jeans, I find them uncomfortable, but know many people who do like to ride in them.

Glad to hear that he has got interested again, horray for girlfiends I guess

Oh dear...I'm still getting over telling him he needs to wear a belt as I can see his pants. Turns out the pant effect was sewn into his waistband.
Thank heavens he seems to have outgrown that bit.

LD, we went to Groomsbridge May I in the end, took first time, its a bit exciting isn't it! Your foalie is gorgeous but if I get one that looks like her we may be getting the solicitor to write to the stud.

Please please please, if he wears jeans, make sure they are ones designed to be ridden in, not ones with metal pocket studs as these will TRASH a leather saddle as beginners often lean backwards. Can you tell I have had saddles trashed by beginners in jeans? I always told beginners to wear jogging bottoms, often jeans are hard to get your leg up enough to mount in.

lol i don't see the point in them doing that, i feel like walking up to them and making them pull their trousers up so there not round their ankles!
