Insure your adult daughter on your Discovery so she can get her horse out and about?

I'm currently saving to buy a new car, I also want to start getting my horse out and about, although first I need to get him happy to travel in a trailer. Not only that but I also need to do my trailer test!

So, I was thinking of asking my parents if they'd insure me on their 4x4, that way I only have to save up for trailer and the test. Dad and OH aren't keen on me running my own 4x4 and I'm not keen on him driving me as he's used to sports cars on trailers not horses!

Obviously I wouldn't use it every weekend and I'd pay towards fuel and insurance, I just have a feeling they're going to say no... I might take my trailer test first maybe then ask?

Yes I would, but would want her to take her trailer test.

I would probably ask for her to pay for the increase though, and would expect it returned clean and full of fuel each time she used it.

Yes. I think I've had most of my children on my insurance at some time or other.
21 yr old daughter has just written off my car but she'll still get to use the new one. She is paying her £400 excess to the insurance company though. I like to help the kids out when I can. A car is only a lump of metal after all.

My parents both have me on their insurance. I haven't lived at home for five years (don't even live close, my dad isn't even in the country) so I don't know why and sadly neither have a 4x4 but I drive their cars quite often when I'm with them so I don't see why it would suddenly change if they had a 4x4. That said, I'm quite old and it doesn't cost them extra to put me on.

I am taking the merc to pick up an, empty, trailer when I buy one though. And my friends mum has just put me on her 4x4 insurance so I can tow both of us about with her car (friend doesn't have B+E yet). If someone else's mother will add me I don't see why your parents wouldn't add you :)

I was insured on my parents' pickup truck to move the horse about. They were the happiest people in the world when I got my driving license and they no longer had to do those 5am mornings to chauffeur me to horse shows.

If you don't ask you don't get. I'm 21 (today!) And for last year been on mum and dads insurance (54 plate Audi a3 tdi sport and mums 54 plate BMW 3series) and they're covered to use my jeep.

I only had to ask.

All our vehicles are insured for any driver, although for the under 25s it has to be named drivers, so anyone could drive anything from the time they passed their test.

The thing is, if they do agree, you must drive responsibly and repay their trust in you.
