Hi, I'm trying to find out some more about my horse's grand-sire, Paris Lights. All I know is that he is Selle Francais, and was apparently a 'high score green hunter', but I have no idea what that means. Anyone know anything?
Thanks

Quick reply - IF it's the Paris Lights I'm thinking of, he was an S1 stallion that stood with Stephen Lanigan O'Keefe in Co Kilkenny (also owns Puissance); fabulous Selle Francais pedigree as he was an Almé x Furioso cross.

Buck Davidson's 3* eventer, May I Tell Ya is by him; 99% sure David Tatlow's 2004 HOYS LW hunter champion/reserve hunter champion - Mr McEvoy - was by him also but will check it out later.

There were at least two Paris Lights I knew of competing on the US hunter scene so it's a very common name over there.

The Paris Lights I'm talking about is from Ireland, so doubt it's anything to do with the american scene. Thanks for that info!

ETA: I just looked at my horse's breeding info and by Paris Lights it says S1- what does S1 mean? I'm guessing this is the same horse you are describing then

An S1 stallion in Ireland is a stallion who has passed all of the veterinary and pedigree criteria at inspection but is not approved into the main Irish Sport Horse stud book because he either did not pass conformation assessment or achieved the performance testing requirement hence they are Section One stallions. I do not know the case for Paris Lights but he did sire some super horses.

Thank you very much for explaining it. This breeding malarkey is quite fascinating.

Yes, must be the Alme stallion so.

If you Googled Paris Lights, that's where you may have come across the 'green hunter' reference - an American namesake competing in the equivalent of novice working hunter classes.

Hi,

I see this is an old post but I was googling my new horses breeding... and his Sire was Paris Lights (Co Kilkenny, Ireland).

On his passport it gives the parentage of Paris Lights, and their parentage:

Paris Lights Sire: Alme, Dam: Iriosa
Alme Sire: Ibrahim, Dam: Girondine
Iriosa Sire: Surioso, Dam: Verveine

Did you uncover much else about the history?

My boys Dam was Peggy's Diamond so I'd also like to find out something about her. I bought my horse 2 months ago and he's listed as ISH, which I always thought was TB x ID but despite his TB like face he isn't really true to TBxID!! My instructor thought he was no more than 1/8 ID, so i thought i'd see what i could find on the internet.... nice to know his Sire was a Selle Francais!

All very interesting!!
