Hi everyone,

I hope you're all having a good evening. Not looked on these forums before but am desperate for some information/advice. Basically, I am organising my best friends hen do which is taking place in York city in the middle of May. We have come up with a fab idea that as we're all horsey, it'd be fun to surprise her and begin our weekend York in style - to complete the journey to York in a posh horse lorry that another friend has free access to!

But.......we are staying in central York and wondered if anyone knew of anywhere where we could park the lorry overnight - it is a standard 3 horse, 7.5 tonne? We have tried York lorry park, but they are only open during the week. Do you think there would be any private parking in the city where we could pay? Or that the council would allow us to park in a public car park - I know there is coach parking available.

Any advice would be great, thank you!

Depends when your going because there is a race meet on the 16th which is a Friday and York will be rammed in the centre you can park down the road to the racecourse but I wouldn't leave it there overnight.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We are going the weekend of the 17th/18th, so after the race meet has ended (sadly as would've been a good day out). I might try calling the premier inn we are staying at too, see if they have any suggestions. Surely people must park motorhomes in places?! We are staying in central york, but happy to leave waggon out of centre and taxi in til, but would need to be sure it was safe.

Try ringing one of the industrial units on foss island road. There are places like halfords, pickfords and kwikfit out that way that have large carparks you could maybe pay to use. And you can walk into town from there.

Thank you to everyone who came up with suggestions. I actually had a brainwave and emailed a couple of camp/caravan sites, one of which were totally happy to accomodate the lorry overnight, for only a fiver! Looks like a lovely site too. Might be good for anyone with this issue in the future to bear in mind! Thanks again :)
