bought my usual bags of carrots for the yard , put them in the water as usual and there were parsnips in with them or anemic carrots lol. All the parsnips floated ?? weird
any 1 know why?

It also is easier to serve them up in the horses feed, we use the sieve and the scoop in water wets the feeds if they are not on sugar beet.

as soon as I buy a bag of carrots I tip all 4 bags (what I buy) per week and put them in the water.

its an old tip i learnt about 20 years ago, stops carrotts going soggy and makes them last longer, being doing it 20 years, great in summer in heat

Today I have learned something new :) Thanks for the great tip - I will be trying this in warmer weather because there is nothing more horrible than going to grab a few carrots and sticking your fingers into a slimy, gooey mess!!

I think they are parsnips and you will probably find they have a lower water content and higher sugar content than carrots which is why they are the first to burn when you roast them with other vegs!

Fab tip about keeping the carrots in water OP I will try that!

I guess it isn't so good when it is cold though, could end up with carrot ice-lollies! :D

Carrot ice lollies - patent that idea!!

Awesome tip on carrots - I thought they would go minging!

So going to start doing that!

actually if the container is big enough its not too bad, only when mega mega ice do they become ice lollies . get a nice cheap sieve from supermarket and scoop them up for feeds much easier than trying to grab them by hand.

Also yes when they go gooey its gross for humans though horses seem to like them. But they they don't go gooey in summer though i do remove any gooey ones when i buy them just put the rest in. also makes nice water to mix feeds in too.

these carrots last a week here thats four bags, if its just one horse I would change the water after 5 days and they will be fine.

thanx for that I do not personally eat them so I have learnt something too on this thread :)

^^me too! (Resolves to toddle out in am and tip 3 nets of carrots into tubtrug of water...) ;) Btw,I also think the parsnips float cos they are less dense than the carrots.:)
