Part-Bred Welsh - Plaited or Unplaited?

I have shown my Welsh D X Traditional Piebald Colt at a couple of local shows, and he seems to be doing ok, so I want to aim a bit higher.

So, one judge has advised me he should be trimmed and plaited as he is "Part-Bred", and another said he should be left natural as both his breeds are shown natural.

Is there anyone who knows the answer, or should I ring WPCS and ask them?

Welsh part breds are shown plaited. However, depending on his 'type' you might be better showing him in coloured classes as a traditional, in which case he should be untrimmed (mostly!) and unplaited.
 
If showing him as PB Welsh, then always plaited. If he's a hairy pikey pony, then let the fur fly free! (see sig for details, lol

Seeing as how he is PB Welsh, he could also be classed as a coloured native - So you could pull his mane to 'Welsh' length, and let it all flow.

Depends on his type and what you want to do with him. If you see him as a riding pony type/WHP - then plait and pull his tail........ but if you prefer the hairy look (big plus - no plaiting

) then let the hair flow. If he is between 14.2 and 15.1, does he have enough bone and be 'typey' enough to hog?

Thanks for all the replies! He is only 14 months, and at a gangley stage so not too sure how chunky he will be. He has a fine, pretty welsh head, and medium amounts of feather.

I could try him plaited in a part-bred class and see how he gets on, and then try him in a coloured class unplaited, and then decide!

Would his colour set him back in part-bred classes? Do Welsh experts tend not to like coloureds?

I prefer trimmed up horses, not into lots of hair, but I want to keep him at his best advantage!
