Those that read my posts will remember my dilema re jobs and moving away from home. Well, I went to the job interview and got offered the job and have accepted it and start in 4 weeks time! I have decided to try and take my horse with me and will definatly be able to afford it. My only worry was re time. So I was thinking of part livery. Just interested in how much you pay for this and what gets done for you? I was thinking that I could get someone to do her in the mornings for me, either muck out and feed or feed and turnout and I would be the evenings after work?

You have no idea how scared I am by the thought of livery! My horse has always lived on a safe private yard (my parents) and I have always done everything for her! The thought of livery scares me!!!

How does turn out work at your yard? Individual? Group?!

Gahhh, a very paniced Frankie! x

Part livery generally covers all the work, not just one end of the day.

Assisted DIY is normally one end of the day, ie they would feed and turn out in the morning, then you could muck out and bring in in the evening.

Prices for part livery are around the £80 a week mark (generally!) and assisted vary significantly depending on the individual yard and what you wnat done.

We used to have a great yard who did the horse on full livery monday - friday, then it was diy at the weekend though the yard policy was (and still is) to turn out and bring in the diy horses so that everything went out and came in at the same time and nothing was left on it's own. For that all my haylage / hay and straw / shavings was included. I had to provide my own feed. Worked out really well - totally took the stress out of working and having a horse to do!

By the sounds of it you need assisted DIY livery, generally speaking part livery consists of full care of your horse mon-fri, with you doing the weekends. Assisted DIY is essentialy DIY but help when needed (& usualy agreed in advance) Ie either turning out or bringing in/rug changes/feed. Some yards are very easy going & dont require much notice of your intentions, while others will prob want to know exactly what you want with regards to turn out/in rugs etc. As for turn out again different yards will offer different turnout, ie individual/group/ 24/7 or just daily. good luck with it! x

I pay £175/month for part livery, which includes bring in OR turn out, individual grazing in own paddock (as many hours as I want), all hay/haylage, bring in for farrier/EDT if I cant, muck out daily, water daily.

Yes he does as he can see other horse all around (electric fenced paddocks). In the winter he has company but in the summer he needs less grass than his usual company so is on his own. He isnt bothered.

Congrats on the job, where is it? As that will put the price up or down.

I think you'll be better off going Part livery. I charge £70 per week includes-

hay
flax
turn out/bring in
mucking out
feeding
rug changes
putting on walker

thats 5 days a week.

The trouble is with assisted DIY is that the costs soon add up!
